Hurry up and wait

Thu ,02/09/2010

I just entered my first writer’s contest with the Romance Writers of America with the first 7k of my novel.

It was an impulse decision, which I strongly hope I’ll not regret.

This whole ‘waiting’ thing is highly over-rated.

This is what it looks like:

And this is where you can get it:

I think I’ll be using this to keep myself motivated.

Settling into summer

The last four weeks have been impossible for writing, but up until then I’ve been using Dr. Wicked’s Write or Die on my lunch breaks. Amazingly enough, I’ve been getting between 500 and 1k words done almost every day. Which also frees up my evening for my family. I’ll be donating some money to that worthy cause.

Now that I have the next six weeks off I need to find a new rhythm. It will probably involve getting out of the house and going to my favourite cafe for a couple hours. There are FAR too many distractions at home. Or, maybe one of the libraries. You can bring in drinks now, so that’s another option.

What I really need to do is choose ONE story and finish it. I have two shorts and my usual mega-uber-epic on the go. Hmmmm. That would mean dealing with the final strings-gathering on the shorts, or writing through a tough plot bit in the uber-epic.

Alternatively, I could always avoid all of that and just start a new one… ;p

I’m going to bookmark this for later

The Submission Black Hole

It’s a nifty website that tracks response times from paying markets. You can choose to publish your results to the ‘response times newsgroup’ at SFF.net (with your name, etc).

Good to know.

My short story, The White Cat, got accepted into Scheherezade’s Facade! Things are a bit up in the air about who will publish, when, and where… But, patience is a virtue (:

So, we waits.

I’m still coasting on the squee…

(and buckling down to keep writing. nothing like a bit of positive reinforcement to keep you motivated ;)

What inspires me

Music. It’s not just the food of love, it’s also the food of life.

Loreena McKennitt is a local musician who has, through her own gutsiness (did I spell that right? gutsyness? hmm.) and talent, gone worldwide. With no compromises.

Her first album Elemental inspired me when I discovered it in highschool. She had been a professional musician for almost ten years, and luckily there were a few albums out by then, so I could devour a few at a time. I wanted to sing and play the harp, and live in a world described by her music. Basically, I wanted to be her ;p

Wow! I got my first review

Actually, Authonomy is working out really well for me. Even if nothing else, I’m getting a major ego-boost.

Apparently I can write really well! Who knew? ;p

Now. I wonder if I’m going to get some good news from Norilana in the next few days? *fingers crossed madly*
