Hurry up and wait

Thu ,02/09/2010

I just entered my first writer’s contest with the Romance Writers of America with the first 7k of my novel.

It was an impulse decision, which I strongly hope I’ll not regret.

This whole ‘waiting’ thing is highly over-rated.

Digital ‘rights’ and ‘permissions’

Tue ,27/04/2010

This is a topic which has been bothering me for quite a few months now. Many of my already-published author friends are suffering at the hands of some unethical individuals (remaining polite is best, perhaps, despite my strong desire not to) who think it is their right to steal my friend’s works. It adversely affects their lives, and incomes. And I’m getting to the point where I wish there was something I could do about it, personally.

But, I can’t.

Loreena McKennitt addressed the Canadian government as part of a discussion surrounding copyright, piracy, and digital ‘rights’. She came to the table with the effect it has on her, directly.
Short version.
Long version.

I hope her concerns were well-received. And properly understood.

I’m going to bookmark this for later

The Submission Black Hole

It’s a nifty website that tracks response times from paying markets. You can choose to publish your results to the ‘response times newsgroup’ at SFF.net (with your name, etc).

Good to know.
