Not really. It goes beyond words.
Lyrical. Poetical. Mind-blowing…

The last four weeks have been impossible for writing, but up until then I’ve been using Dr. Wicked’s Write or Die on my lunch breaks. Amazingly enough, I’ve been getting between 500 and 1k words done almost every day. Which also frees up my evening for my family. I’ll be donating some money to that worthy cause.
Now that I have the next six weeks off I need to find a new rhythm. It will probably involve getting out of the house and going to my favourite cafe for a couple hours. There are FAR too many distractions at home. Or, maybe one of the libraries. You can bring in drinks now, so that’s another option.
What I really need to do is choose ONE story and finish it. I have two shorts and my usual mega-uber-epic on the go. Hmmmm. That would mean dealing with the final strings-gathering on the shorts, or writing through a tough plot bit in the uber-epic.
Alternatively, I could always avoid all of that and just start a new one… ;p

I just reviewed Michael’s short story ‘Doppelganger’ over on Goodreads. Check it out:
Like Butterflies in Iron: Erotic Tales of Urban Fairies by Frances Selkirk
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Doppelganger, by Michael M. JonesIn: Like Butterflies in IronCirclet Press, 2010
The premise of this story is interesting; exploring the dark side of fairies and what happens when a granted wish doesn’t turn out the way one might hope.Holly lives a disconnected life, cut off from personal attachment, and quite happy as her role of observer until someone shows up in her apartment. Someone she never thought to see again.
Herself.
Michael’s use of slightly distanced first person works phenomenally well for Holly’s view-point and head space, and he draws us in and out of close point of view seamlessly. It was a thoroughly enjoyable story. Except for one thing. His use of ‘hard language’ during the sex scenes. Michael certainly understands the rhythm and flow of a woman’s desire, however, I found some of the language distracting. Maybe I just don’t like the word pussy, but the one use of ‘netherlips’ made me laugh out loud… which was unfortunate. It was sort of like an ‘f-bomb’ being dropped at a garden party. All in all, it was a good scene, though, and added to the emotional content of the story.
I will be recommending this to my friends who like erotic stories.

I took a minute to flip through an alphabetical listing of all the music on my iPod, and was in stitches over the randomness and dichotomy of it all.
This is the listing as I saw it:
Adam Lambert (I bought one of his songs to show solidarity)
Andy Hunter
Ani DiFranco
Armin van Buuren
Bat for Lashes (kind of silly, but I can see why the Twilight crowd likes her so much)
Belly Dance Beats Antique
Celtic Woman
The Chemical Brothers
The Corrs
Deep Factory
Diana Rowan
Dido
Dolores Keane
Enya
Erasure
Fatboy Slim
Fig for a Kiss
Francis Edwards
The Irish Rovers
Jay Brannan
Jesse Cook
Jessica Radcliffe
John Renbourne Group
Juno Reactor
Lady Gaga
Loreena McKennitt
Lugwig van Beethoven
Medieval Baebes
Norland Wind
OceanLab
Orphei Drangar
Paul Dooley
PJ Harvey (one song only, all the rest are kinda weird)
Raffi
Rage Against the Machine
Robin Bullock
Silly Wizard
Slipstream
Sting and Eden Karamazov (the lute album)
Teada
Thomas Loefke and Norland Wind
Young Love (one song only, the rest is twee and boring)
Most of it isn’t writing music, but sometimes you just gotta dance around your house like a freak (:

By Dylan Meconis.
This is a lovely, erudite, artistic graphic novel, set in an alternate-history Eastern Europe. There’s vampires and werewolves. And heretical theology professors.
That’s all I’m going to say. Just go read it here.
You won’t regret it.

And rip it into tiny little beautiful, delirious pieces…
Jay Brannan sings ‘Every little bit’ by Patty Griffin
That broken piano makes that song. The sound quality is awful. But that also makes it perfect, too.

This is a topic which has been bothering me for quite a few months now. Many of my already-published author friends are suffering at the hands of some unethical individuals (remaining polite is best, perhaps, despite my strong desire not to) who think it is their right to steal my friend’s works. It adversely affects their lives, and incomes. And I’m getting to the point where I wish there was something I could do about it, personally.
But, I can’t.
Loreena McKennitt addressed the Canadian government as part of a discussion surrounding copyright, piracy, and digital ‘rights’. She came to the table with the effect it has on her, directly.
Short version.
Long version.
I hope her concerns were well-received. And properly understood.

The Submission Black Hole…
It’s a nifty website that tracks response times from paying markets. You can choose to publish your results to the ‘response times newsgroup’ at SFF.net (with your name, etc).
Good to know.

My short story, The White Cat, got accepted into Scheherezade’s Facade! Things are a bit up in the air about who will publish, when, and where… But, patience is a virtue (:
So, we waits.
I’m still coasting on the squee…
(and buckling down to keep writing. nothing like a bit of positive reinforcement to keep you motivated
